The Difference between an Employee and an Independent Contractor
5/7/17 The Difference between an Employee and an Independent Contractor
One difference is that an employee gets a salary or wage, rather than being paid on a per project basis. Another is that an employee is furnished the equipment used in the performance of the work; the independent contractor supplies his or her own. A third difference is that an employer controls, directs, and supervises an employee in the performance of his or her work, whereas when an independent contractor is hired a company merely specifies the result to be achieved, and the individual uses personal judgment to achieve that result.
