loathe Loath Loth

To loathe is to detest.
The plaintiff loathed the defendant.
To be loath to do something is to be reluctant.
The lawyer was loath to let the hotheaded witness testify.
Loth is a rare variant form. The usual error is to use the verb loathe where the adjective loath was intended.
