13/5/19 Sexism

In principle, sexism means prejudice or discrimination based on a person’s sex or gender. Although it can affect anyone, it systematically and primarily affects women and girls, suggesting the idea that women are inferior to men.

Feminist authors define sexism as a system of oppression that results in disadvantages for women, linking this notion to stereotypes and gender roles. Feminist philosopher Marilyn Frye defines sexism as an “attitudinal-conceptual-cognitive-orientational complex” of male supremacy, male chauvinism and misogyny.
