25/7/17 Sui Generis and Sui Juris
If something is sui generis, it is in a class by itself, unlike others <if databases can’t be copyrighted, perhaps we need to devise some form of sui generis protection>.
And what about SUI JURIS?
A person who is sui juris, is of legal age and capacity or has full civil rights <all parties to the suit being sui juris>.
As with other Latinisms, each phrase should be avoided whenever a suitable English substitute would work.
