The Difference between Media Medium and Mediums

Media is plural and should take a plural verb <the news media are going to be all over this story>. But it has been used as a mass nouns with a singular verb for so long that the usage is now considered standard <the media is overplaying this story>.
A single type of mass-media outlet is still called a medium <the medium of television became popular after World War II>.
Mediums is the plural only when referring to clairvoyants <two mediums attended the séance>.
