Whereas ability is qualitative, capacity is quantitative.
Ability refers to a person’s power of body or mind [a lawyer of great ability]. Capacity, meaning literally “roomy, spacious,” refers to a person’s physical or mental power to receive [her memory has an extraordinary capacity for details].
